Nursery at SPPS

Welcome to Southwark Park Primary School’s Nursery

We are excited to be able to  offer wrap around care for Full Time Nursery children as of September 2024 - please contact the school office for further information.

We are pleased to offer either 15 or 30 free hours (if you are eligible). We accept children from 3 years old and above. We will provide the children with a healthy nutritious lunch on the children’s full days.

Are you eligible for 30 free hours of childcare?

If you would like to purchase additional hours, so your child goes full time, it will cost £100 per week. We think this is a fantastic opportunity to extend your child’s day! A healthy and nutritious lunch is included in this fee.

Dragonfly class has a qualified teacher and 2 EYP's all with NVQ 3 or above. Our focus is to help children grow independently in all areas of learning and development.

Children are free to choose whether they want to take their learning inside or to our outside area. We support and encourage children to develop their communication and language skills by encouraging children to express and talk about their feelings and needs.

Your child will receive a home visit from their teacher and EYP to develop a strong partnership between home and school.  We have regular stay and play sessions where parents are invited into the child’s class to take part in focused session; this may be about maths, reading etc.

If your child attends PM Nursery, please ensure they have eaten before they come to school.

Our Curriculum

At Southwark Park Primary School we believe that play underpins the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. Through play, our children explore and develop learning experiences which help them make sense of the world. They have the opportunity to think creatively alongside other children as well as on their own, and have many opportunities to communicate with others as they investigate and solve problems.

There are seven areas of learning. In order to fully participate and enjoy learning, children need plenty of energy and language to learn with others. The prime areas are of learning are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

With these foundations in place, children are ready to explore and learn from the world around them. At Southwark Park Primary School, we create a rich and stimulating environment both inside and outside the classroom. This encourages children to take risks and immerse themselves in real and imaginary worlds.

We follow the Power of Reading scheme, which places high quality texts at the centre of the children’s learning. Books are chosen to reflect the children’s interests and expand their horizons.

Through well thought out and planned activities, our pupils are enthused by learning. They are excited about their writing, resilient in their problem-solving and motivated to share their creativity. The specific areas of learning are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

We want the best start for all of our children and know that our setting is the perfect place to start children on their school journey.
